When talking about cannabis, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the main compounds, CBD and THC, because they are very abundant and cause psychotropic (THC) and medicinal (CBD) effects. But there are actually four different structures that react in the body: THC-V, THC-A, Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC.

Delta-9 THC is commonly known as THC and is believed to be the compound by which strains are classified. While THC Delta-9 causes most of the psychotropic effects, THC Delta-8 also causes independent but overlapping changes, such as relaxed mood.

In fact, THC delta-8 can transform into THC delta-9 because the latter is much more stable. When the delta-8 component changes its position and moves to the delta-9 position, the molecule will also change. This transition is part of the reason the delta-9 THC concentration is higher than delta-8, because eventually all of the delta-8 will convert to delta-9.

You only have to look at the photos of THC Delta-8 and Delta-9 to realize that they are so similar to each other that it is hard to believe that their properties could be so unique.

What are the effects of Delta-8 thc?

In order for all or most compounds to work, they must bind to a receptor in the body. Only THC can bind to its receptor, and since THC delta-8 and delta-9 have extremely similar structures, they can bind to the same receptors found throughout the central nervous system: type 1 cannabinoids, CB2 and CB1 respectively.

Some studies show different activities when THC molecules bind to different receptors. Some claim that CB2 is activated when bound to THC delta-8 (non-classical THC) and inactivated when bound to THC delta-9 (classical THC).

Heavy cannabis users have reported that THC Delta-8 is much calmer and therefore not as paranoid. Also, that it can relieve nausea and does not generate such a high state of disorientation.

Is Delta-8 important for cannabis?

Hundreds of plant species are found in cannabis, the effects of which are not yet fully understood. Although there are many compounds in cannabis, most of these molecules are found in trace amounts. For example, THC Delta-8 is estimated to be between 0.3-0.5% by weight, while THC Delta-9 can exceed 20%.

Some research suggests that trace molecules – including THC delta-8 – accumulate to create a synergistic effect known as the entourage effect. In addition, there is scientific evidence that different arousals occur when a user ingests pure delta-9 or delta-8 THC.
